If I (a midliner) carry a hard rez skill, it's either Rebirth for "o shit" moments or Death Pact Signet for mid-battle revival.

Monks do not bring a rez, end of story. It's 4-6 seconds of them not healing your party, and if somebody's dead, they need to be healing your party. As far as having a rez skill disabled, I say that if you just bring another heal or prot, there's a much better chance of not ever needing that rez in the first place.

As far as personal choice goes, I diversify - the hero setup I usually use is Mo/E without a res, N/Mo with Rez Chant, and R/Me with Rez Signet, plus me, Me/Rt with Death Pact Signet.

Well, if you can mange your energy efficiently on a Monk, Unyielding Aura makes for a decent choice. Massive boost to healing, cancel it and its like rebirth without the energy penalties, only 5 energy to recast. Only issue is that its a maintained enchant, losing a pip of energy regen.

Which, given my R11 Luxon title, is why I love Selfless Spirit.

Also, if you are packing Healers boon, several rezzes in the healing line can be cut to 2 or 3 seconds. Ghostly Haste or Mindbender (with high asuran title) can also significantly cut rez times.

All in all, given that henches are useless, and random pugs are often horrible, I put a rez on all my heroes other than an MM. And I may put rebirth on myself if its a mission, depending on which one it is.

As for res on heroes apart from Monks, I disagree. Mid-battle res skills could easily prevent wipes, not to mention that DPSignet also doubles up as a DP preventer for whoever uses it, given the ally dies.
Quoted for truth, i never bring res on monk heroes or if im monking, unless someone asking for it.. Other then healers may carry somekind of res or be /rt with Fomf or Dpsignet

I don't put rez on my monk heroes, because I don't use them to rez midbattle or outside of battle. If you forget to set the rez to manual the monk AI immediately starts rezzing midbattle, which is worse.

I favour putting my ele heroes /rt or /p for Flesh of my Flesh or Signet of Return. Or hey, if you use mez heroes... fast cast is pretty handy for a midbattle rez imo.

First, I was asleep.
Second, lol H/H.
Third, gimme 6 other players who don't suck and we can go do it.

srsly the only time I H/H now is versus Shiro because that's the only way to make him a slight challenge. i don't even play often anymore because the game is going stale, but when i do play im always playing with friends (who don't blow) in a full human party (whoah...playing a multiplayer game with other people...mindblowing concept.), so.

Even then if you're doing H/H, take a rez scroll.

Using a rez is a waste of a slot in PvE and shouldn't be happening unless if you have bad bars, or make a VERY TERRIBLE mistake which shouldn't be happening either.

In PvP having rezzes on your mid & front makes sense since you have a lot of stuff on the line usually, but in PvE a rez scroll is enough, or take UA.

I don't give my hero monks a Resurrection skill.

Other than that, if I can fit one on another hero then I do, but if I feel that slot would be better used to enhance the build then I forego it. I try to make more of an effort to include Res skills when I team with other humans "just in case".

My most used Res skills are Resurrection Chant, Death Pact Signet and Signet of Return. Rebirth I use sparingly. I always disable Res skills on heroes and micro their use myself when required.

I advocate this also.

If you have any kind of ress shrine, NEVER GET RESS SKILL as long as you got some four leaf clovers

And if on a mission make sure everyone does

My monks don't have res, the rest all have signets. It's some sort of life insurance, same as a condom, when you don't need it and you have it, there's no problem. When you need it and don't have it, you're GOREDENGINEGOED

1. Not everyone has access, or wants to purchase, clovers, candycanes and the like.

2. If one party member dies what is the point in causing a party-wipe just to resurrect one member of the party?

3. If one person is alive who could have resurrected fallen allies after a fight there is no reason why they should gain 15% death penalty "just because".

I'd like to point out that this is the "Heroes & AI" section of the forums, and thus it is irrelevant to this thread if someone and their seven l33t human friends need to bring res skills or not. This thread concerns res skills on heroes, which typically indicates H/H or at least only a few human players. Moreover, it's a general question and does not specifically address a certain dungeon or point in the game. Thus, the answer should concern all areas of the game, including points where it is far too early to carry res scrolls.

With that said, my train of thought is similar to Celestial Beaver's:

When you're with all H/H, if you can spare /Mo or are primary I highly suggest Rebirth.

I've noticed a few people are giving the usual "PvE is easy, anything works, if someone dies then you suck" and honestly I think they're playing a different game. I'd be very impressed if anyone went through the entirety of the game without having a single H/H die once. Then try it on Hard Mode

My question to these people, is what happens when you get disconnected for a minute? You return to find a patrol destroying your party, most of whom are dead already, and another patrol is heading your way... Seems to me you can either let everyone (including yourself) die and res at the shrine (assuming there is one ) or simply run away to come back and Rebirth.

Rebirth on heroes is a waste though, even with manual casting something usually goes wrong. Stick to res signet on heroes, unless you're running one of the shorter resses on either a Mesmer with fast casting, or other enhancements such as Healer's Boon or Holy Haste.

For why a Monk Hero should never have a Rez on their bar, check the Sticky in the Monk part of this Forum.

Furthermore, as a Monk, why the GO ENGINE RED GO ENGINE RED GO would you want to deplete ALL of your energy (after wasting a few seconds to rez someone) just so that when they are up, you can't heal them? Doesn't make sense to me.

Res Chant
FomF
DPSignet

If I absolutely HAVE to have Rebirth at all, I go W/Mo and bring it with me. This is usually done in PuG's. I can run any bar that I want to, and sacrifice my utility skill for an easy pull-n-Rez. When my team asks me why I am not healing them when I Rez them, if they don't understand why I give either my Monks or my N/Rt's priority on first Rez, I reply with: "I'm a Warrior, I kill things. The Monk (or N/Rt) will heal you, give them a second."
